Just Add Water

We added the first batch of water to the aquarium today!

  1. So is it salt water? Or do you shake in some salt after you put it in??? :) :) Is that bucket heavy? Did you spill any? Did it all fit? Ha. Just want you to know your audience has QUESTIONS. :) :) I love you! YEA for almost having fishies! Mom

  3. Yeah for the water! Did the water come in that bucket? Did you have to buy special water? Or, did you just use the bucket?

  4. You can actually buy filtered natural seawater, but it is expensive, and it is crazy expensive to ship at about 8.5 pounds per gallon. My quite small 58 gallon aquarium uses over a quarter ton of water.

    Instead, most people use a salt mix. It comes in a powdered form and you mix a certain amount per gallon of water to end up with something close to natural seawater. The bucket in the picture is actually a bucket from salt mix that I had used in the past. Once you finish a bucket of salt mix, the buckets are handy to keep for mixing new saltwater and for moving water around.
