Plumbing Complete

Filed under: Reef — Brad @ 10:24 pm

I finally finished all of the plumbing for the aquarium. Joy and I tested everything with freshwater and we had no drips or leaks, which was awesome. So now I just need to start filtering and mixing some saltwater so we can get this thing filled up and ready for fish!

  1. What do you mean no leaks or drips. I seem to recall a hilarious story about that test. You’d better write a bit more. :) :) Love you! Mom

  3. Oh, I forgot about that. When we did the test with freshwater, I just temporarily rigged up the drains because I didn’t have the final plumbing pieces ready yet. I was manning the electrical cord and I told Joy if anything leaked where she was watching, just tell me and I would pull the plug. Well, I plugged everything in and water started flowing and I thought everything was ok for about 30-45 seconds until Joy said, very calmly, “you know, there’s water going EVERYWHERE down here”. What?!? I quickly unplugged everything and ran around to take a look. Water had been falling about a foot into the sump from the drains and then splashing out everywhere. For some reason my dear, sweet wife did not consider that a leak, but it sure did get water everywhere. I just attribute that to us having owned an aquarium in the past, so Joy is used to a little water “escaping”. Anyway, I went ahead and finished up some of the drain work to get the drains to exit underwater, and that took care of the splashing.
