The Insider

Filed under: Everything Else — Brad @ 10:33 pm

Our Monday night small group just started reading a new book, and so far we all really like it. Here’s a taste from the introduction:

“It’s about making sense of life – about finding one’s calling in it. I find most people don’t have a clue. They put in eighty-hour weeks, going hard all the time, sometimes catchin naps in their cubicles; but when you ask them where they’re going in such a hurry, they give you a blank look.”

“The problem of meaning really sets in the day you stop running. Are you going to be okay with spending the remaining years entertaining yourselves? I doubt it.”

That got my attention. The book is “The Insider” by Jim Petersen and Mike Shamy. We had a great disussion about it tonight, and I suspect there will be many more in the weeks to come.

  2. Oh my…. I’m one of those “don’t have a clue” types, aren’t I? ;)

  3. Carrie,
Don’t we all feel clueless in many ways? From our group discussion on Monday night, I’d say that many of us are dissatisfied with our lives and long for them to be different. And I certainly do fill my life with all kinds of things going on. Is that primarily to keep my mind occupied so I don’t have to worry about who I really am in the bigger picture? All good questions, but sometimes the answers don’t seem to come too easily.

Also, what in the world are you doing up so early on a Saturday morning? Joy lets me sleep in on Saturdays. :)
